One of the most striking things to me about working with skulls is how adamantly the design of each carve reveals itself. Once I sat with this skull and listened, I immediately saw delicate wings cresting the eye sockets. I felt a strong urge to be accurate to life rather than fabricating my own species of moth, so I did a little reference searching and found that the death head's moth fit her shape and her intentions perfectly. Ironically it wasn't until the carve was well underway before I put together the subconscious connection of a death's head hawk moth on a sheep skull but, such is often art and life.
